Why Join Us

In 1939, Halifax Veterinary Hospital opened its doors and became the first established Animal Hospital Practice in Nova Scotia’s capital area. Dr. Ross Ainslie acquired the hospital in 1953 and has since been committed to offering excellence in animal health care, promoting responsible pet ownership and health-related educational opportunities for our clients. Conveniently located within the city of Halifax, our health care team offers over 95 years of experience with extensive and ongoing training in all aspects of veterinary medicine.

The Halifax Veterinary Hospital is an accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Since 1996, we have regularly undergone evaluations by AAHA to ensure that we comply with the association’s high-quality standards of care.

Halifax Veterinary Hospital is also a Cat Friendly Practice accredited at the Gold level.

Our team is honoured to play an important role in the lives of cherished animals and pet parents in our community. As the capital of the province, Halifax is a thriving hub for business, culture and recreation. Despite being home to top tourist attractions like Peggy’s Cove, the Halifax Waterfront and the world’s longest downtown boardwalks, our city still maintains a warm, small-town feel. Our people are friendly, welcoming and have a strong community spirit. The beautiful nature and positive energy around us provide plenty of inspiration and activities to keep us engaged.
