Nail trims can be very stressful for some animals. Here at Halifax Veterinary Hospital, we emphasis low-stress techniques on making these experiences more positive. We often start with a lot of treats, which can help the animal associate nail trims with a positive stimulus.
Most cats have 18 toes; five toes on each of their front feet, and four on the back. My cat, Mandy Pawtinkin, is blessed with 22 toes. She has a congenital physical anomaly called polydactyly (Greek for ‘many digits’). It is a genetic mutation that causes cats to be born with more than the usual number of toes on one or more of its paws.
With recent changes to restrictions on businesses, we have made some important updates to our operating policies.
1. WE CAN NOW SEE ALL CASES BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
This includes vaccines, wellness exams, blood work, heartworm testing, spays and neuters, dental services, and more!
2. SAFETY MEASURES TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE
We are operating under a "closed door" policy to protect our clients and staff. When you arrive, please remain outside the hospital and use your cell phone to call us. We will take a history of your pet's health and discuss any concerns. A staff member will then meet you outside to bring your pet into the hospital for an examination. The Veterinarian will call you to discuss the recommended treatment plan. After your appointment, a staff member will return your pet to you outside, and take care of any needed medications and payment. They will bring any items going home to you at your vehicle.
Continue the use of credit cards as the preferred payment method.
For in-clinic pick-ups, please do not call us upon arrival. We ask that you line up outside in the designated area and a team member will come out to assist.
3. OPERATING HOURS
Monday, Thursday, Friday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Tuesday, Wednesday: 8:00 am – 8:00 pm Saturday: 8:00 am - 2:00 pm Sunday: Closed
